Blog entry #2
At the moment, i am focused on teaching grade levels k-12. I plan to become an art teacher and in order to be realistic in doing that i must be able to adapt to any level. With all the activities we have thus far finished in class i have chosen different grade levels to focus on. While doing the news letter assignment i chose to focus on grade 5. My standard was based on historical, cultural and social contexts "Students understand the impact of visual art on history, culture and society from which it emanates. They understand the cultural, social and political forces that, in turn, shape visual art communication and expression..." the benchmark I worked with basically said to compare different art works from social contexts, cultures, and history. My grade level indicator says to identify art works from different cultures. The objective i wrote for this assignment gives the student an assignment to complete a newsletter and in the newsletter discuss three different cultures' art work, within the newsletter the student is also required to identify and include one piece of art from each culture. Students would be able to learn very well from this activity, they are not only learning about past cultures, but also present ones. This activity teaches the student about art in various cultures, but also some history will be absorbed while researching. Word processing enables the students to learn while doing.

Wikipedia; good or bad?
In my opinion, every high school graduate would have at least one thing in common, that one thing would be a lecture from an English teacher telling them the dangers of using Wikipedia as a source. I was once told “Anyone could have posted that!”, as my teacher scolded me in my freshman English class as if I was once again a fifth grader. Today I know where my instructor was coming from; she was simply trying to prepare me for college.
Wikipedia, in my opinion is not a source that should be used for scholarly papers, primarily because it is true that anyone can change the information on the page. However, if you are assigned a specific topic to write on and you have no idea what it means or what it is, then using Wikipedia would be a good idea to get an overview for yourself on your topic. Wikipedia has it’s pros and cons, but overall I do believe it is a good source for an overview, therefore offering more positives rather than negatives.
